TEEJ IN 2050

Teej: An Indian festival where married women fast for the happy and prosperous life of their husbands. Women usually get ready like a bride. They apply Henna on their hands and flowers on their hair. It is happy festival where women and men come together and celebrate it. The festival is losing its importance as the new generation doesn't know about how it started. It would be interesting to know how it will be in 2050.

Imagine a woman who is married to a man for around one year and they will be celebrating teej for the first time. She will wear her wedding dress with heavy makeup and jewelry and try her best to look like a bride again. She will fast whole day but more than fasting she will be posting stories on Instagram, the morning one will be like, “I’m ready to fast, I will do my best to protect my husband from evils. #IAMSTRONG”, the noon one will be little different as till now she would have observed her husband eating like monkeys and not offering her food, “we women can do anything for men, but men, the selfish ones can’t even sacrifice their one time meal for us #selfish #feminism.” The night one will probably be the nightmare for the husband because till now the woman would be starving and yelling at him out of frustration, “only an hour left for dinner #waitingformoon #myhusbanddosen’tcare #nomorefastingfromnextyear.” It would be fun to see how the women steal all the happiness of their husbands. The coming generation women are such an irritating creature, for example, they will by themselves go to their husbands and ask for the permission to fast when their husband tries to stop them, they will be like, “you think I can’t even fast for a day? I will fast and I will prove you wrong. Just wait and watch; HUH!!” and when they can’t control their hunger, they will be like no one cares and I am hungry here and my husband is eating like morons. Now, that is amazing, when he asked you don’t do it you were a rebellion, and now when you are unable to perform it no one cares. That is shit.

Now let us consider the situation of middle-aged the couple who has successfully completed around 7-10 years of their marriage and have one or two notorious kids. There the husband will be like, “I will fast with my wife, I care for her and she is important to me as I am important to her.” But no one knows the behind story where the wife is like, “Am I mad? who will fast the whole day, take care of children, take care of the house and also prepare food for you, where you an inhumane does not even consider my feelings and eat in front of me like you are hungry since you took birth and I am full like I ate a couple of minutes ago. The answer is N-O-NO, my love, I won’t fast and you know the consequences why I fast and what will happen to you.” The terrified husband, the helpless brat, to save himself agrees to keep a fast and some husbands also agree to do some household chores to get rid of such speeches from their ‘sensible wives’.

The scene of the old-aged couple would be the best. Where the wife is sitting on the sofa with her legs on the table and eating chips, pizzas, burgers, cakes, and French fries, and her husband would be fasting and doing household chores. As till now the wife would know the husband is good for nothing and on every Teej, he just sits and eats, so will try to reverse it and compel her husband to do household chores and she would enjoy eating different snacks and drinks. But do not underestimate the husbands, they are best at their works and here also they will act to fast and eat behind their wives back. At last, the Teej will be just a tradition in which both wives and husbands try to push on to each other and find a reason not to perform it.
